My tablet pen broke today. I have discovered that these things break like it's their job - I've spent about $90 over the last few years just replacing them.
NOT ANYMORE.
Today, I decided to google around, see if anyone else had the same problem - drop a wacom pen, it stops working. Boo hiss. As it turns out, there is a simple, low cost way of solving this problem:

BEHOLD.
I love you, google. I love you, internet. Stay awesome.
Fixing a Wacom Pen - I wish I had known that!

| Things I have learned about procrastinating paper writing in college |
[08 Dec 2008|03:18am] |
1) ALWAYS KNOW EXACTLY WHEN THE PAPER IS DUE. Misunderstandings lead to pain, stress, and a night full of very unhealthy energy drinks. (No, I did not accidentally set the date wrong on my laptop and think it was two days earlier than it actually was for the entire weekend, wtf are you talking about).
2) Know your writing speed. If you know you average 500 words an hour and have a 2000 word paper to write, make sure you give yourself at least four hours to write the paper. Five if you have to do the research as well.
3) When doing the research and must use at least one book reference, make sure to check the book out of the library at least a week in advance. This gives you the satisfaction of saying "hey, I've started... sorta." to an annoying yet well meaning parent or friend.
4) By the same token, come up with a topic at the very least a week in advance, if not a thesis. Good prep, especially when you have to get the book out anyway.
5) When preparing to write the essay, lay it out mentally. Intros and conclusions can usually account for 150 to 300 words. So, if you have a 1,500 to 2,000 word paper, your layout may look something like this:
LOL TOPIC GOES HERE
Intro - 200 words
Topic 1 - 450 words
Topic 2 - 450 words
Topic 3 - 450 words
Conclusion - 200 words
Total: 1,750
Note that the total goal is neither the bare minimum, nor does it exceed the maximum. This gives the allusion of sustained effort, but does not force you to work too hard.
6) Always remember: YOU ARE NEVER AS FUCKED AS YOU THINK YOU ARE.
7) If you haven't learned to not procrastinate at this point, you're probably never going to, so all you people telling me the best way to go is to not procrastinate at all clearly do not know what an art! what a science! what a way of life! this is. That is all. :D

| LOL CARD SEASON |
[09 Nov 2008|11:48am] |
So here's the thing. I have an address book full of addresses, which means regardless of whether or not you want one, you're getting a card from me this year.
HOWEVER!
If your address has changed (I'm looking at you, loreamara >:E), PLEASE post so I can send your card to the proper address. I really hate getting these back. Stamps ain't cheap, you know!
If you have never received a card from me, or don't think I have your address and want me to stalk you send you one, post.
Also, this year, I am offering the option of an e-card. So if you're anal and don't want me to know where you live not that I can't figure it out anyway mua ha ha, just post your email address and I'll email it to you in a nice .png or .jpg or something for you to print at your leisure.
Comments are screened, of course!
Finally, to my schoolmates: your addresses are listed in campus mail, so I'll be sending one through the address listed on there. Get over it. :D
I'm starting early this year, so I'm hoping to be printing in full color! =O Special treat for everyone, yay!
Also, if you would like to send me a card, my address did change this year. If you make a card post, I'll put it there too, but for those of you who are too lazywow i've been using that a lot want to take advantage of the moment and update your address books, my addy this year is:
Kris Cutsail 322 Gilbert B Newark, DE 19717 US of A, ya'll.
Get it. Got it? Good!

yay, meme. I never post anymore.

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you!

[23 Sep 2008|09:14am] |
There's been more controversy on campus, and things with "last year's residence life program" are being stirred up again. Even FIRE's been brought back into it, this time with the new "center-right publication," The LampLighter.
I personally have no problems with students expressing their opinions. That is what we're here for, isn't it? To get our ideas out there, to become better people? Apparently though, UD cares more about PR and money than it does its students' rights. Students that develop ideas as part of their senior thesis don't get more than a name on an item that is then outsourced by the University of Delaware to make more money for them. God forbid a student want to express their ideas in the open! Freedom of speech? Universities aren't democracies. They are whatever they've decided is best for them at any given time.
And now FIRE is back. That is exactly what the university needs, right? More bad PR? Of course not. So, they're being scared into changing their policies. This is where I have a problem. I don't have a problem with controversy. I don't have a problem with outside resources. What I care about is UD being so afraid of more bad PR from the same organization that they are being frightened into changing. It's ridiculous! They can deny it all they want, but the fact of the matter is, if they are so gung-ho about student leadership and equality then they would look to our student leaders for help. They would talk to the students to see what needs to get done, to see what needs to change.
Of course, it is partially our fault as students, as we retreat to outside organizations that have successfully resulted in change for the better in the past, instead of turning to each other to raise awareness of an issue. I personally was only vaguely aware of The LampLighter's existence on campus. Potentially because it is a new publication, possibly because of the fact that the University limits its distribution, but prior to the The Review's front page story on its involvement with FIRE, I had no idea there was any kind of problem.
So what I'm saying is this: Change needs to come from within, not from without. Student issues are STUDENT ISSUES and should be dealt with as such. Bringing in outside organizations only demonstrates to the faculty of the University that we are not the adults that we say we are. It's like wanting to get a tattoo at fifteen- "I AM grown up, Mom! You just don't understand!" We're just whining teenagers, bringing in the "everyone else is doing it" defense.
If a person wants to make a difference, if a person wants a change, then he has to shoot for it himself. He has to raise the awareness in his community and let them see the problems that exist, rather than bringing in a group like FIRE who, though they may have students' best interests at heart, are still a bunch of middle aged men and women, desperately out of touch with the students they are "defending."
Everything as I get older is tied up in legal issues and court battles over right and wrong. I ask, what difference does it make? Are you really getting somewhere, or is the University just going to do what you ask to shut you up? Remember that knowledge is power- keep yourself informed and know that changes are better made through people with ideas more than concerns, and genuine desire rather than getting something rushed through to control the PR backlash. Maybe something good will come of it.
I think that given all the political issues over the last year, UD needs to take a good long look at its priorities. Are they really here for the students, or are they here to put porsches in their driveways and fatten their wallets?
Edit: Wrote a Letter to the Editor similar to this and submitted it to the Review. Let's see where that goes.
